Bio-
April Baez is a self taught Brooklyn-based contemporary artist known for her highly tactile, sculpted acrylic works that bridge the boundary between painting and installation. Defined by a process of rigorous experimentation, Baez utilizes a unique "piping" technique reminiscent of a pastry chef ,to build three-dimensional forms that burst from the surface of canvas and wood.
Her practice is deeply rooted in the transformative power of art, translating complex narratives of grief, spiritual growth, and struggle into vibrant compositions that radiate wonder. Through her signature heavy-texture style, Baez creates immersive visual gardens where color and relief serve as a language for healing and renewal. Her work invites a visceral engagement, challenging the viewer to find whimsy and resilience within the layers of her sculpted surfaces.

Artist Statement-
To me, art is an exciting and regulating sensory experience—a way to provide the tactile and visual input my system craves while telling stories rooted in my lived experience as a sister, wife, mother, and child of God.
By utilizing heavy textures, and hand-sculpted florals ,I breathe wonder into my work and bring my internal world to life. Each piece exists within its own spiritual atmosphere; some are deeply inspired by my personal faith, while others draw from the ethereal fantasy realms found in literature. To me, every canvas feels powered by the supernatural.

Though I have always loved the simple beauty of nature, I never possessed a traditional green thumb. As a child, I dreamed of being a florist; today, I fulfill that dream by creating unique, everlasting blooms that tell personal stories and build the world I wish to inhabit.
I believe that using vibrant color brings me closer to the Creator. It is said that Heaven holds colors that do not exist on Earth; until it is my time to see them, I consider it a great honor to work with the palette we have. Through these hues, I express the full spectrum of the human soul from the depths of grief to the heights of euphoria.
